Injecting New Energy & Strengthening DeSoto’s Community!
Since taking office, Mayor Rachel Proctor has reinvigorated DeSoto with fresh energy, innovative programs, and impactful initiatives that bring people together and make the city stronger. Through her leadership, she has empowered youth, celebrated culture, built bridges between faith and community, enhanced disaster preparedness, promoted inclusivity, and advocated for health and well-being.
From launching DeSoto’s first-ever MLK Day Celebration to founding the Paid Internship Program that has provided career-building opportunities for local students, Mayor Proctor has prioritized youth engagement and cultural pride.She has also fostered deeper community connections through initiatives like the Quarterly Faith Leaders Breakfastand the Student Ambassador Program, ensuring that all generations have a voice in shaping DeSoto’s future.
In times of crisis, Mayor Proctor has been a proactive leader, creating the DeSoto COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disaster) to provide immediate aid and resources to residents. Her commitment to inclusivity led to the DeSoto Commission for People with Disabilities, ensuring that every resident has access to opportunities and representation. This initiative will be rolled out in the Spring of 2025. Additionally, she has championed health awareness with initiatives like the First Ladies Brunch in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Mayor Proctor’s leadership has transformed DeSoto into a more connected, inclusive, and opportunity-rich community. Her initiatives don’t just address challenges; they create lasting change that strengthens the city for future generations.
