"Back to the Basics"

 

A - Improve Citywide Accountability

  • Increase transparency & inclusion of community stakeholders

  • Return back to the fundamental principles in our leadership that made us an All America City

  • Organize a Policy Review Committee to evaluate current City policies & procedures for efficiency & usefulness

 

B - Bring Everyone Together

  • Address vulnerabilities magnified through the pandemic

  • Research resources to continue to  support the community through the pandemic

  • Preserving the integrity of our neighborhoods


C - Increase Communication and Collaboration with DeSoto ISD and the Community as a Whole

  • Collaboration with the School Board to better serve the students

  • Establish a joint strategic plan with the School Board

  • Engaging all to gain a better understanding of the needs of the residents

  • Streamline communication with individual residents by strengthening HOA networks and promoting the establishment of neighborhood associations for those without an HOA

 

 

 

Future Points of Focus for the Growth of DeSoto:


  • Enhance support for small businesses within the “Grow DeSoto Market Place Incubator” by creating a formal business education curriculum for GDMP tenants. The entire DeSoto business community at large would be able to take advantage of this business education program

  • Enhance the City website & printed materials to improve the user experience for Spanish speaking residents

  • Create a facade & signage improvement program 

  • Create opportunities to engage the community in the City comprehensive planning process

  • Create Community Task Forces around key areas of citizen concerns

  • Revitalize the neighborhood watch program & the DeSoto Police Department video database program

  • Bolster community policing efforts through the expansion of programing & policies

  • Develop a Mental Health Task Force to advocate for mental health education, resources and mental health services which have become even more critical amidst this pandemic

  • Partner with local businesses to develop a teen internship/work program 

  • Establish a Senior Citizens Council 

  • Explore expansion of our current Senior Center

  • Establish a scorecard/grading system for multi-family properties within the city to maintain quality standards and safeguard the health and welfare of occupants of multifamily properties and the community

  • Host a "Small Business Think Tank" to bolster creative solution to sustain business growth during the pandemic

  • Expand the resources available to our Veterans through partnerships and programming
